My name is Ms Surgeson (she/her), a maths teacher from Mid-Wales with more than twenty years experience. My passion for mathematics is second only to my passion for teaching it! I genuinely believe that no learner need dread maths lessons, and that with the right setting, teaching, and support, they may even come to enjoy them – even if only a little bit.
I have extensive experience with neurodiverse learners and those with anxiety and other mental health challenges. A couple of years ago I turned what I have learnt into a handbook for teachers called ‘Effective Teaching for Anxious Learners – Seen, Safe & Supported’ – published by Routledge.
I live with my wife and our four cats in a cottage by a stream in rural Wales. When I’m not enthusing about teaching and learning, I enjoy storytelling and making things.
