SEND & Neurodiversity

Inclusive Learning at Queen’s Online School

At Queen’s Online School, we recognise that every learner is different. For students with additional educational needs or neurodiverse profiles—such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism or other learning differences—we provide a learning environment built around flexibility, support and success.

Why SEND & Neurodiversity
Matters

For many families, finding a school that truly understands and supports their child’s unique learning needs can be a challenge. Traditional classroom settings may not provide the right pace, structure or awareness for every learner. At Queen’s Online School we’ve designed our model to remove barriers, adapt to individual needs and help each student thrive—not just academically, but personally too.

Our Approach to SEND & Neurodiversity

Flexible Virtual Environment

Students learn from home in a setting they can control—less sensory overload, greater comfort and more autonomy. Studies emphasise how online options can benefit neurodiverse learners through reduced distractions and tailored pacing.

Personal Mentor for Every Learner

Each student with special educational needs is paired with a dedicated mentor who meets regularly. These sessions cover academic goals, personal growth, and strategies for independent learning, self-advocacy and resilience.

Adapted Programme & Supports

Our team can adjust lesson formats, provide assistive technologies, offer small-group support and create learning plans that respond to each student’s strengths and needs. We work in partnership with families and professionals wherever required.

Flexible Learning Model

Live interactive lessons are complemented by recordings and guided independent study. Students may revisit content as needed, shift work times to match energy patterns, and access help promptly. Extended time, modified format or different pacing can be arranged.

Small-Group or Individualised Support

Where needed, students receive extra support either in small groups or individually. We may adapt materials, provide assistive technologies, break tasks into manageable chunks, and ensure any adjustments are clearly communicated.

Well-Being & Self-Management Built-In

We integrate sessions on digital wellbeing, executive functioning (planning, organising), self-reflection and confidence-building—ensuring our learners grow in more ways than just academic knowledge.

What This Looks Like in Practice

Weekly one-to-one mentor check-in to review progress, adapt strategies and support emotional wellbeing.

Live lessons with recordings available so students can revisit at their own pace or alternate format if needed.

Independent study windows where assistive tech, reduced stimuli environments or modified tasks are available.

Small-group breakout sessions focusing on key support areas (e.g., executive-function, literacy support, sensory-friendly peer groups).

Social-connection time in dedicated neurodiversity-friendly clubs which can include games, discussion groups, collaborative projects.

Regular wellness workshops such as managing transitions, building confidence, reflecting on how you learn best.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of training do mentors and staff receive for SEND support?

Our mentors and specialist staff complete ongoing training in neurodiverse learning styles, assistive technology, inclusion strategies and adjustments. They are experienced working with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and other profiles.

Yes—while live lessons offer interaction and structure, we recognise that some students with neurodiverse needs may prefer fewer simultaneous sessions. In such cases we work with families to adjust cadence and ensure catch-up via recordings or alternative formats.

We use a combination of assessment data, mentor check-ins, student self-reflection and engagement metrics. Importantly, we look at wellbeing, confidence, independence and connection—not just grades—so that growth is holistic.

Every case is reviewed individually. While many provisions can be met in our online context, some therapies or multi-sensory provisions may require external input. We’ll collaborate with families and relevant professionals to map a realistic and effective support plan.

We operate online clubs, peer forums and structured social opportunities (with moderators and neurodiversity-aware design). Students also meet regularly in smaller groups and receive mentoring to build social confidence, peer-communication and community belonging.

Great online school

I think Queen’s is great! Everyone is so kind and helpful and i feel like i’m getting a proper
education.

David Fletcher

Proper Education

It’s really helped me with my anxieties about the general school environment, and the platform as well as the INCREDIBLE teachers, have enabled me to get 8’s and 9’s in my GCSE assessments. I would 100% recommend this school to others who want to better their education, and feel more comfortable while doing so.

Emily Carter

Helped me with my anxieties

I enrolled at Queen’s because I was interested in doing biology and chemistry A-level.
The friendly and kind and very very supportive teachers there just honestly were always there to help and guide me through pretty much anything. From questions, I had about the actual lessons to problems and difficulties with the course.

They will always listen and be willing to advise you or actually spend the time to resolve the issue with me.
In conclusion, if you’re confused and not sure about what next step to take, and how on earth you’re going to study this and that on your own- which I was at the beginning. I feel like Cambridge online education is for you.
Thank you, for everything 🙂

Very Very Supportive

After our daughter was off-rolled because of her special needs we were desperately worried about our daughter missing out on an education giving her choices and opportunities in life. Now she couldn’t be happier, feeling challenged in a good way and learning a lot from the highly qualified teachers who all have a real passion for their subject and for teaching it. As parents we are now completely reassured that our daughter is not missing out on a great education. There is great communication with the school and the teachers and it’s a very caring school

Fantastic school

Following a period of sustained bullying which the state school our daughter was attending failed to deal with,  as parents we felt lost as to what to do next.  Luckily we found Queens online school which offers fantastic teaching over a wide range of subjects at affordable prices.  We are so grateful to Queens Online School for making our daughter happy again and for building her self-esteem.
